rice krispie treat nests

Easter is one of my very favorite holidays, of course because of religious reasons but also because of the FOOD. Thanksgiving and Christmas are often credited as being the best when it comes to indulgence, but Easter ranks right up there for me and I look forward to the sweet treats  every year once spring arrives. Give me all the Cadbury Creme Eggs, homemade ice cream, Sweetart Jelly Beans, and carrot cakes, please! Just don't give me all the Peeps. I will throw those nasty things in the trash.

Bear and I visited See's Candies a few days ago to let him pick out chocolates for his teachers and the idea for these rice krispie nests was born. We found the perfect-sized chocolate eggs and I'd already been wanting to make rice krispie treats for our playgroup party the following day, so it was an easy decision! We made a quick Target run for some edible grass and got busy. Bear loved assisting with these (when he wasn't shoving all the eggs in his mouth)- he thought it was so much fun helping me unwrap each egg and placing it in the "nest".

The nests are made easily by spraying a muffin tin and shaping each rice krispie treat with a spoon. Let them sit for 20-30 minutes to cool and then remove to decorate each nest!

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons butter
6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
1 pkg. (10 oz.) + 2 cups miniature marshmallows
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pkg. edible grass
2 pkg. See's chocolate eggs (about 60 pieces)

Directions:
In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Stir in vanilla. Remove from heat and stir in cereal.
Spray two muffin tins with PAM (or butter them) and scoop rice krispie mixture into each "muffin spot", filling it about halfway full. Taking a spoon, shape the treats into a nest shape, with the edges rising higher than the middle.
Allow nests to cool for 30 minutes before removing to decorate. While nests are cooling, break apart edible grass into 1-2 inch pieces and unwrap all chocolate eggs.
Place grass and eggs in each nest and enjoy!
*recipe makes 20-24 treats

It's another rainy day in Houston and I'm currently working from my favorite spot, Levure Bakery, while Bear is in Mother's Day Out. I had plans of running errands afterwards but I think I'll avoid the rain and enjoy a second latte instead. :)
Hope you're having a wonderful week!

Easter Recap

Hi, friends! I hope you had a wonderful Easter!

Please prepare yourself for a very long-winded post. We spent time with tons of family, friends, and Bear was a huge fan of hunting eggs (aka eating chocolate). All in all a successful Easter!

road-trip to West Texas in matchy matchy shirts from Maisonwares on Etsy

Saturday was spent with the Fullwoods. Bear has lots of cousins on that side and they had so much fun playing and hunting eggs! Bear also fell and got a big boo-boo on his forehead, but still managed to have a good time.

This picture cracks me up. Sucker all down the shirt, dirt all over the face, ant bites on the arms, knot on the forehead...and still going strong. Ahhh, little boys.

Saturday night all the Fullwood siblings went to The Lumberyard to see Stoney LaRue. He was awesome!

Easter Sunday

Our sweet Mamaw had surgery so Bear went to visit.

And a few more random shots from the trip for your viewing pleasure :).

First golf cart ride! (he loved it)

My parents are just a little bit crazy about Bear. Enough so that they're building him his own "theme park" in their backyard. :)

We're back home and enjoying some major R&R. On this weekend's agenda? Rest. Sleep. Eat. Rest.

Is it Friday yet?

Easter Fun

We are having the best time celebrating Easter this week; Bear is at such a fun age! He doesn't fully understand everything but is still very interested in it all. At our playgroup egg hunt this morning, he picked up tons of eggs but had to open each one and survey the contents before dropping it in his bucket. Of course a few leaves and sticks made it in the basket, too. :)

We're (we being me) all about the matchy matchy these days.

Yesterday afternoon was full of festive snacks and egg-shaped sidewalk chalk. Houston has had perfect weather the last few days and we've been soaking it up.

Peep Pops were Bear's favorite!

We're really excited to be heading back to see family in a few days! Safe travels for all of you who will be on the road/in the air this weekend!
