diy $2 pom pom flip flops

Tassels and pom poms are everywhere right now and rightfully so- they're adorable! We make a lot of pool/beach trips in the summer so I'm always looking for cute flip flops on the cheap (so I won't get upset when Bear buries one in the sand and it never turns back up). I saw these cute flamingo flops at Dollar Tree the other day and knew they'd be perfect for pool days, but I also wanted to add a little more fun to them. Luckily I had picked up several colors of pom pom ribbon from the Target Dollar Spot, and they turned out to be a match made in crafty heaven.

This easy project only cost me $2 because I already had the other supplies, but chances are you do, too!

You'll need
-a pair of flip flops (these are from Dollar Tree)
-fishing line
-scissors
-pom pom ribbon (Target Dollar Spot)
-hot glue gun

Step One: Taking the pom pom ribbon, measure the length from the center of flip flop strap to the end. Cut the ribbon that length.

Step Two: Measure three more times, so that you have four ribbon strands total.

Step Three: Apply a line of hot glue down the strap and quickly stick on the ribbon. Repeat until you've used all four ribbon strands.

Step Four: You'll have a little gap at the toe of the flip flop that needs covering up. Cut one small section of ribbon with a pom pom in the middle.

Step Five: Glue this small piece of ribbon onto the center of the strap.

Step Six: Cut a small piece of fishing line and tie it around each strap base (where the plastic strap meets the sole of the shoe). Face the knot toward the outside as to not irritate your feet, and trim the ends. Repeat three more times until all strap bases have been secured with fishing line. This is to ensure the ribbon ends don't unravel or come off over time.

Really simple, and probably not worthy of a DIY tutorial, but maybe this has inspired you to pull out your glue gun and exercise those creative juices. Or at least make a trip to the pool. :)

This week is flying by; I can't believe it's already Wednesday. We have a busy next few days planned and Saturday is Zach and I's 5th Anniversary! We're celebrating with a day of relaxation (as much as Bear will allow) and stuffing our faces at Taste of Texas. Zach has been there several times for work and I've been dying to try it; I hear the salad bar alone is worth the trip. And the Snickers Cheesecake.

Bear and I are heading out into the rain for afternoon errands; our rainboots get more wear than these flip flops ever will. Hope you're staying dry!
