Baked Potato Board

Nothing says “fall” quite like a warm bowl of chili and all the fixings. Add perfectly baked potatoes to the mix? A party platter I can definitely get behind.

Yesterday was game day at our house (Go Texans!) and we decided last minute to put together a Baked Potato Board. I added a few extra items to our weekly Walmart grocery order and not long after, it was all sitting neatly on our doorstep. I’m a big believer in shopping Walmart’s private brands like Great Value and Marketside. They’re super affordable without compromising on quality. My boys typically turn their noses up at “generic brands” from other stores, but they never know the difference with Walmart’s private brands! And they eat a lot, by the way, so keeping our grocery bill within budget would be impossible if I didn’t shop brands like Great Value.

Enough chatting, time to show you how our board came together! I had to get photos quickly because it didn’t last long.

My two piece set is under $20 and so comfy! Fits true to size. Board can be found HERE. I use it all the time!

For the BEST Baked Potatoes:
(I always use Russet potatoes)

1. Heat oven to 450°F.

2. Prepare your baking sheet. Bake the potatoes on a foil-lined baking sheet.

3. Poke your potato all over with a fork. Because no one wants to deal with exploding potatoes.

4. First bake. For the first round, bake for about 25 minutes, until the skin starts to feel dry and slightly wrinkly.

5. Brush the potato with melted butter (or oil). Next, carefully remove the potato from the oven. Use a pastry brush to brush the potato with melted butter (or oil) evenly on all sides. Sprinkle the potato with a generous pinch of Kosher salt. Then place the potato back on the baking sheet, opposite side up, so that the potato can cook evenly on both sides.

6. Second bake. Bake for an additional 20 minutes. Then very carefully, use an oven mitt to squeeze the potato to check for doneness. If the insides are nice and soft and give under pressure, remove the potato from the oven. Otherwise, continue cooking in 5-minute increments until the potato is ready to go. Cooking time will vary depending on the size of the potatoes, but on average, they typically take 45-55 minutes to cook.

7. Cut, squeeze, fluff, and serve! Finally, slice the potato open lengthwise with a knife, give it a good squeeze to open it up, fluff the insides with a fork, add your favorite seasonings or toppings. Enjoy your perfectly crispy-on-the-outside, soft-and-fluffy-on-the-inside, and oh-so-delicious baked potato!

I hope I’ve inspired you to create a fun board for your next game day, or at least save $$ on your weekly grocery bill. Who cares about football when you’re winning at life? Save time by having Walmart’s personal shoppers do the hard work for you. New customers can use promo code TRIPLE10 to save $10 off their first three pickup or delivery orders. $50 min.
